Add a small extra allowance. Default 5%.

What is a Cement Calculator?

A Cement Calculator is an online estimator that helps you find out how much cement and sand you need for construction. Instead of making rough guesses or manual calculations, this tool gives instant, accurate results that save time, money, and effort.

How the Cement Calculator Works

🔹 Area + Thickness Mode

This mode is useful if you know the length, width, and thickness of your project area. Simply:

  • Enter the Length (e.g., 20 feet)

  • Enter the Width (e.g., 5 feet)

  • Enter the Thickness/Depth (e.g., 1 inch)

The calculator multiplies these values to find the Wet Volume of cement mortar required.

Best for walls, floors, or plaster areas where dimensions are available.

🔹 Direct Volume Mode

If you already know the total wet volume required (for example, from architectural drawings or engineering estimates), you can use this option.

  • Just enter the Wet Volume directly.

  • The tool will calculate how much cement, sand, and water are needed.

Best for contractors or engineers who already have volume figures.

Understanding Mix Ratio (Cement : Sand)

The mix ratio defines how much cement and sand are mixed together.

  • 1:3 (Rich Mix) → Stronger mix, often used for special plastering or repair.

  • 1:4 (Standard Mix) → Common for plastering walls and masonry.

  • 1:5 or 1:6 (Lean Mix) → Used for general brickwork and internal plaster.

For example:

  • A 1:4 ratio means 1 part cement + 4 parts sand.

  • This ensures proper bonding strength and durability.

What is Dry Volume Factor?

When cement and sand are mixed dry, they occupy more space compared to wet volume due to air voids.

  • The tool uses a default dry volume factor of 1.33 (i.e., 33% extra).

  • This means:
    Dry Volume = Wet Volume × 1.33

This ensures that your material estimate covers bulking and wastage.

Waste / Contingency Percentage

On construction sites, some material is always wasted due to spillage, uneven mixing, or handling.

  • The calculator includes a default 5% contingency.

  • You can increase this value if needed.

Helps avoid material shortages during work.

Example Calculation

Let’s take an example:

  • Length = 20 feet

  • Width = 5 feet

  • Thickness = 1 inch

  • Mix Ratio = 1:3

  • Dry Volume Factor = 1.33

  • Waste = 5%

🔹 Results:

  • Wet Volume = 0.236 m³

  • Dry Volume = 0.33 m³

  • Cement Required = 118.6 kg (~2.37 bags of 50 kg each)

  • Sand Required = 0.247 m³ (8.73 ft³)

  • Water Required = 59.3 liters

Benefits of Using the Cement Calculator
